Kevin is a 1994 graduate of Central Michigan University. He was part of the first class to graduate from the East Lansing campus of the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University in 1999. While at DCL/MSU, Kevin took part in a summer program, working in Canadian Parliament and on Canada’s national election in June 2007. In 2001, Kevin earned his Masters in Labor and Employment Law from Wayne State University. His thesis paper on Internet privacy in the workplace was published by the West Virginia University law school’s law journal.
Kevin is a former prosecutor with the Floyd County (Indiana) Prosecutor’s Office; as well as prosecutor for the Township of Redford and City of Garden City, prosecuting hundreds of cases. As an associate attorney with Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho, PLC in Livonia, MI, Kevin represented several municipalities around Michigan and also was involved in litigation against Major League Baseball on behalf of hundreds of MLB alumni who had been denied a pension and medical benefits by the league. After a stint working at Northwestern Mutual in securities and compliance, Kevin founded Kevin P. Cummings, PLC, in 2008, focusing his practice on securities law, labor and employment law, and working closely with small businesses and local small business owners on the many issues that arise for those clients.
Kevin is excited to join The Kizer Firm in that it will allow him to provide additional resources and enhanced services for his clientele, as well as the backing of one of Livingston County’s oldest and most respected law firms. Upon joining The Kizer Firm, Kevin has expanded his practice to include estate planning and probate, bankruptcy and civil litigation.
Kevin resides in Livingston County with his wife and two children and is active in his parish and alumni organizations. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan as well as Indiana. He has been a guest speaker in areas including securities law and estate planning.
